what does she have to say?

Anywhere...anytime...

It is often said that true leadership shows up under pressure. While, anyone can show leadership behaviour when the going is easy, it is in the tough times that real leadership shows up.

One of the best examples that comes to mind in the last few weeks is Canterbury University student, Sam Johnson who harnessed the power of Facebook to mobilise an army of volunteers with wheelbarrows, shovels and gumboots to help with the massive cleanup needed in many Christchurch suburbs. He saw a need, used his skills to contact others, then got out there and began shovelling...a marvellous role model!

And watching Mayor Bob Parker deal not only with the aftermath of the earthquake but the constant news reporters following and questioning him wherever he went. I was impressed with his leadership skills and grace under considerable pressure and on more than one occasion wondered how I would cope with so many competing demands over an extended period of time.

So ask yourself...
  • who are the quiet leaders who just get on with the job when the pressure is on in your workplace? (they can be easy to overlook!)
  • what are your leadership skills like when the pressure is on?
  • who stood out for you following the Christchurch quake? Why?

the ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy”

what does she have to say?

"believe nothing. No matter where you read it, or who said it, even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense”
